These figures were made for Puma sportswear, with John Schoonraad and Andre Masters supervising the job.

The photos take some explaining: there was a real revolving door of crew on this project, so none of the pictures here show my work alone. Brace yourself for some heavy-duty name-checking…

The sculpture for the girl began as a plastiline pour taken from a lifecast performed by John and company; Steph Bell started cleaning up the body; then I cleaned up the head, opened up the eyes, and resculpted the breasts, shoulderblades and backside; Doug Wibden joined me to help smooth everything out; and Simon Webber did the final tweaking and detailing. Teamwork in the best Sesame Street style. Meanwhile the male figure was also underway, with Simons Rose and Webber on lifecast cleanup duties.

2002

The finished pieces were moulded by Tristan Schoonraad, with me helping/hindering along the way, and then reproduced in silicone rubber. I coloured all the silicone for this job, and painted everything you see below.

What you don’t see below are the seams – that’s thanks to the sterling work of Sean Kelly, Angela Pang, Frankie Johnson, Ken Lang and whichever other poor unfortunate happened to be in the room at the time. The figures are supported by fibreglass and metal armatures, manufactured by Warwick Boole, Doug, Jimmy Robinson, Sean and Ange.

Work in special effects - widen your social circle.
