2001 verdict: This constitutes a two-fisted amateur
effort, but at the same time runs no risk of being mistaken for professional
work! Unusually, the closeup picture
actually works the best – the shape of the head looks odd in the wide shot. The nostrils are obviously just
empty holes, one eye’s off to the chip shop and there’s no eyelashes or
eyebrows. The paint scheme is quite ambitious, albeit a little on the orange
side; however, the piece lacks the translucency we associate with real skin
and so has an uphill struggle not to read as fake anyway. (Sculpted in plastiline, moulded in
plaster, cast in latex, painted with acrylics/latex mix. The eyes are roll-on deodorant balls
artworked up!) |
